It’s Earth Day!

2024's Earth Day Focus is Plastic Pollution

So what's the big deal about plastic?

As plastics break down into microplastics, they release toxic chemicals into our food and water sources and circulate through the air we breathe. Plastic production now has grown to more than 380 million tons per year. More plastic has been produced in the last ten years than in the entire 20th century, and the industry plans to grow explosively for the indefinite future. We are learning more and more every day about how microplastics are making their way into everything, and it's so scary! But we can do something about it!

Read on to learn some simple ways you can make a difference.

Do you love your dishwasher pods but hate that they release microplastics into our drinking water?

We felt the same, but we didn't want to go back to paying for mostly water in dishwasher liquid, whose plastic bottles just end up in landfills or the ocean. So we did some research, tried some powders again, and ultimately ended up and switching to Blueland's dishwasher tablets, and our dishes are as clean as they were with those plastic pods full of harsh chemicals. Plus they come in a compostable paper package!

Look around your shower and at your countertops.

Are they full of plastic pumps to dispense soaps, shampoos, body washes, conditioners, gels, and all other kinds of products that are largely made of water? Switching to bar soaps and hair care products can have a huge impact to reduce plastic usage. Plus you get the bonus of reducing overall waste, including water waste!

We are currently obsessed with EcoRoots' hair care bars, which don't just smell incredible, but are putting our former professional hair care products to shame. Turns out you don't have to sacrifice beauty for sustainability! Their site also has so many other kind and sustainable options for around your bathroom and kitchen!

It can be intimidating to think about how to lessen our impact while keeping our families safe. But we can do this. And Sweet Farm is here to help you on that journey!
