Sustainability Spotlight: Cleaning Up
Sustainable Steps For The Planet
Sweet Farm is the first non-profit sanctuary in the world to address the global climate impacts of factory farming across animals, the plants, and the planet. Our food web is incredibly complicated and it’s impossible to move forward without first understanding how these pieces are connected. By linking climate education, regenerative agriculture, farm-animal rescue, and the technology that is sustainably disrupting food and agriculture production — Sweet Farm is the world's first Climate Sanctuary. Our monthly sustainability newsletter shares easy ways that you can contribute to our mission to create a compassionate and sustainable world.
Cleaning Up, Cleaning The Planet
Did you know that one of the smallest rooms in your home has the potential for the largest negative impact on the planet? That's right -- your bathroom is filled with products that clog the landfills and damage the planet's land and oceans.
Who would guess that something as simple as a bar of soap would be a excellent start to battling climate change without even leaving the house? A bar of soap uses less packaging than liquid soap or shower gel, takes less water to produce, and - being lighter and smaller to transport - and has a lower carbon footprint. Recently we've fallen in love with these vegan soap bars from No Tox Life which make the whole bathroom smell lovely.
And don't even mention toilet paper, which results in 27,000 trees being cut each day, adding up to a total of 15% of worldwide deforestation. If you factor in the 45 gallons of water needed to produce a single roll, plus the harsh bleaching chemicals that end up in our water supply - that’s a real bum deal for the planet. Good news though, its easy to switch to a bamboo based toilet paper, like the adorably wrapped rolls from Who Gives A Crap. Profits from their plastic free products also go toward ensuring everyone has access to clean water and a toilet.
And then there's the impacts to the planet! As a purpose-driven company Kind Laundry seeks to eliminate single-use plastics from polluting our planet. In less than three years, they have helped eliminate 500,000+ single-use plastic jugs and packaging from our landfills.
