Help us give Elliot a new start!
Meet Elliot, our newest pig rescue!
Earlier in December, Sweet Farm was asked to step in and provide assistance in a case of extreme neglect. Elliot, a Yorkshire pig, once lived at a sanctuary. In what has become too common of a story, that sanctuary closed suddenly, leaving all the animals in emergency need of safe homes. While many of the animals found new sanctuary placement, Elliot was left behind at a private farm that was ill-equipped to care for farm pigs.
Losing weight and regaining his health will be a long journey
For over a year, Elliot was fed a diet of bread and corn, leading him to gain extreme amounts of weight. He was unhealthy, uncomfortable and in desperate need of proper care. When Sweet Farm was asked to step in to provide a safe home and medical care, we knew we had to say yes.
Elliot has now been at Sweet Farm a few weeks, and he's still very much adjusting. Pigs have the emotional and intellectual capacity of a human 4-year-old, and we can see that Elliot is scared and depressed. He's been through A LOT in the last few years.
But every day he comes out of his shell a little bit more. He loves when people say his name and will give you a grunt back every time you say it. He is also adjusting to his new, healthy diet of high quality grain, plus we've finally convinced him that carrots are a tastier treat that corn. And he's starting to do more walking outside in his paddock which will be key to losing all 150lbs he needs to shed to regain his health.
But this will be a long road. The vets have told us it could take over a year for him to properly lose the excess weight. Intake costs for pig are significant, and we're relying on the kindness and compassion of our incredible supporters to help us provide the care and support that Elliot needs.
Join us in this lifesaving mission by making a donation today. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference in his life. Together, we can give him a second chance filled with love, compassion, and freedom.
