This hands on workshop led by Steve Sierigk of Hawk Meadow Farm will explore techniques for growing wood decaying mushrooms, such as shiitake, on natural logs in an outdoor setting. We will cover tree species selection, inoculation techniques as well as ways to optimize colonization and ultimately mushroom production. These techniques can be applied to other log decaying mushrooms such as oyster and Lion's mane. Growing in this manner results in the highest quality mushrooms and offers an ecological sustainable approach to mushroom production.
